Navy SWCC training stages.

Before being designated as a Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman, a candidate is tested and prepared throughout SWCC training. The goal of training is to produce the highest quality maritime warrior who can adapt to missions in any environment. Historically, SWCC operators have worked mostly in coastal and river areas, but their missions at times may include non-maritime environments.

Awaiting Instruction Phase is for SWCC candidates who are waiting to begin instruction. SWCC candidates may have the opportunity to take part in this six-week revolving schedule, with an overall objective of improving the candidates mental toughness and physical conditioning.

Candidates new to the SWCC program benefit from the opportunity to mentally and physically prepare for the rigors of their intense follow-on instruction by developing and improving running and swimming techniques, as well as increasing overall cardio-vascular conditioning.

AIP also allows those candidates who were set back in previous instruction to improve on their deficiencies before resuming. Each candidate in AIP will take a Physical Screening Test to serve as his baseline from which to improve upon during follow-on instruction. Some candidates in AIP may also have the opportunity to assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the Naval Special Warfare craft used to support the course instruction objectives.

be required to hone throughout the remaining courses.
